Squeezing Zits Bad News for Acne
Instant gratification is something the our current society, and more so the upcoming generation, has come to expect. Medical innovations such as plastic surgery have allowed people to lose weight on the fly or to quickly eliminate face wrinkles and the like. Acne is not one of those conditions which lends itself to instant gratification. It is much more multifaceted than your standard disorder and will resurface if not properly and consistently treated. Many refuse to accept this fact and continue to squeeze at their pimples. If you have any intention of curing yourself of this disorder, you should consider your alternative options. After all, picking at pimples can have some dire consequences.
Our primary objective when it comes to picking at our pimples is to get rid of them. This behavior actually has an opposite effect. First off, by applying pressure to an acne lesion, we force the mixture of bacteria and sebum within the pore further down. This actually prolongs the length of time which the pimple will remain active. The second thing that you accomplish is spreading the bacteria to pores within close range. So, that one pimple that was tempting to pop can resurface as two or three new ones.
Acne scars are an integral part of the discussion surrounding pimples popping. Scars are sometimes caused by the lesions themselves, but in more mild cases of acne they are caused by the sufferer him or herself. Picking at any pimple, especially inflamed ones situated under the skin can cause some very unsightly scarring. You don’t want to wakeup one morning after completing your acne treatment to find a face full of scars!
There are no instant cures for acne, and as you can see above, squeezing at your acne will only produce temporary improvement. If you are ready to take your treatment seriously, you need to resist temptations to touch your face or to tinker with your pimples. It can take time to overwrite these bad habits. However, there is no better time to get started than the present.
If you want semi-quick results for an important date, use a generous amount of benzoyl peroxide (2.5% concentration) on your troubling lesions. This should dry them out as well as eliminate p. acnes bacteria. You will not see improvement if you tamper with your pimples, so restrain yourself.
