Shower Filters… To Buy Or Not To Purchase?
Is there really a good reason to use a shower filter? Filters are put on your faucet for drinking water, but why would people put them in their shower? Having a shower filter is equally important to having a filter for your drinking water. The disadvantages of not having a filter for your drinking water can cause irriversible damage to your brain with all of the germs contained in it; showers really need one also to shield your skin from chaffing and hair becoming so parched to the point it may break.
Many people do not know just how much chlorine and other chemicals that you inhale during just a quick 10 minute shower. When the hot water produces steam vapor that has the chemicals in the water, you inhale up to 50% more chlorine and other VOC’s (volatile organic compounds, such as chlorofluorocarbons, pesticides and chloroform) than if you drank two liters of water containing the chemicals. During a warm shower, the pores of your skin open up which results in the absorption of VOC’s and chlorine, the chemical responsible for the drying effect on skin and hair.
So what happens? How do filters keep harmful chemicals from being inhaled or touching the skin? The use of a filter will take out chemicals holding kinetic degradation fluxion, and ion binding copper media. When water passes through the filter it eliminates toxins and metals by generating a galvanic reaction combining zinc ions and chlorine, shaping a non harmful chemical called zinc chloride. KDF helps with the elimination of other harmful metals such as; lead, copper and mercury.
The price of the shower filter depends on whether it has only KDF or both KDF and carbon. The least expensive filters contain KDF solely, which is only responsible for the removal of chlorine. A filter with both KDF and carbon must be obtained to remove other chemicals in addition to chlorine. If you are willing to pay the price, you can also get filters with additional features. Filled with refreshing materials, shower filters make your hair and skin healthier.
You should change your shower filter at a minimum of one time a year. Your shower filter may have to be changed a couple times a year, especially if there is high traffic to the shower or if your water has a large amount of deposit. All in all, shower filters are beneficial to your body’s health. By getting rid of the dangerous chemicals in your water you can prevent these unsafe toxins from damaging your hair and skin, and worse entering your body. Many different filters with different features are out there; picking the filter that best suits what you personally want and what you are willing to pay is most important. Have fun choosing what is the best one for you and your family!
