Cute Homemade Christmas Ornaments – Easy Kids Crafts

Christmas ornament crafts can be fun and very, very easy. Spending time together as a family creating wonderfully fun Christmas ornaments is a great way to make memories with your little ones and decorate the house, tree, and wreath at the same time! Try a couple simple projects like these to start the fun!

Candy Cane Reindeer: This is a very sweet little ornament that will delight young and old alike. You’ll need to have some regular size candy canes, brown pipe cleaners, goodly eyes, the tiny ones, and some small red pom poms, decorative ribbon, and a small bell.

Start with the pipe cleaner. Twist it tight around the “neck”, under the hook of the candy cane, and it will form a V. Then shape the ends to look like antlers. Glue the eyes on each side of the “head.” Glue the red pompom on to be the nose. Tie the ribbon on for a hanger and string the bell through the ribbon. You’ll probably want several for your tree and your wreath.

Pasta Wreath: This is a traditional Christmas wreath with a twist. You’ll need small sturdy paper plates, a variety of pasta shapes, craft glue, tempura paint or craft spray paint, and pretty thick ribbon for a bow.

To assemble, cut a hole out of the center of the paper plate to form a wreath shape. Choose an array of interesting pasta noodles and glue them around the wreath trying to cover the entire front of the paper plate. After the craft glue has dried, take your tempura paint or craft spray paint and paint the pasta. Let the paint dry. Tie the ribbon into a traditional wreath bow and then glue it to your wreath. Make several in different colors and styles to decorate every room in the house!

Cinnamon Cookie Cutter Ornaments: These pretty little ornaments are not only a sweet smelling ornament, but they are a great way to keep little ones busy and happy. You’ll need the following: 1 cup of ground cinnamon, 4 tablespoons of white craft glue, a little less than 1 cup of water, but you might need more. To get set up you’ll need to have a cookie sheet, toothpicks or straws to make a hole, some ribbon, and of course, cookie cutters.

In a bowl, mix together the cinnamon and glue. Add about 1/2 the water, mixing well, then adding more until your dough is like cookie dough. Put the bowl with the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Sprinkle a cutting or pastry board with cinnamon and put your dough on it, kneading the dough until it’s smooth. Then, taking your rolling pin, roll the dough out evenly to 1/4 inch thick, sprinkling more cinnamon on the board if the dough sticks. Cut out the shapes using your cookie cutters and set on cookie sheet. Take your straw or toothpick and put a hole in the top of each one. Put the cookie sheet in a warm oven for about 2 hours. Take out and cool. Tie your ribbon through the hole to make a hanger, then hang your ornaments on the tree, or wrap them up for gifts.
