An Ideal Bedroom
If there’s one priority that you shouldn’t miss out in decorating, that is to make your bedroom as comforting and relaxing, and if you wish, as inviting as possible.
Consider these things when decorating your bedroom: color, furniture and decorative items, bed placement, floor accent, lighting and comfort.
Paint it with calming colors. Light pastels and earth tones are soothing. Warm or bright colors can disrupt (or heaven forbid, prevent) sleep. The color of the bedroom should be subtle and comforting enough to induce a calm feeling. You need that especially after a tough day at work.
Another thing that you should look at is the position of the bed in the room. The bed should not block the doorway and should be the focal point of the room. If you want to make the most of space in your bedroom, put the bed against the longest wall in the room. This is an old decorating secret that still works. Another option, if you have a larger room, is to put your bed on an angle.
The bedroom furniture are not really required to be extravagant. Save that for the living room. Remember, the bedroom should be about comfort, relaxation and personal space. You certainly don’t need a grand piano in there to feel relaxed, do you? Choose items that go well in color, material and/or design. Use a theme so you’ll have a coordinated look. If it’s a beach house kind of room, then make the furnishings reminiscent of a beach house room or resort. If it’s a modern theme, then the things should also be modern.
You can make your bedroom more inviting and cozy with an area rug. You can place it in the center of the room, beside the bed or at the foot of the bed. Those with more space add smaller rugs as displays by the door or under the dresser or cabinet. If you have a walk-in closet, that’s better! You can place an area rug at the opening from the inside. Dressing up can be more comfortable with a soft cushion for your feet.
Don’t forget your lighting. Like the paint, it should give a soothing effect and harsh lighting doesn’t do that. A dimmer switch is an option if your light is too bright.
Keep away from sharp objects such as books and television sets in the bedroom. This can make it difficult to sleep. A bedroom is not a place for a bookshelf. While many people have TV sets in their bedrooms, it is best to use your bedroom for sleep only and not for TV viewing if you want to make your bedroom more inviting and also enable you sleep better.
