A Modern Look Revived

by Cathrine Saunders

Modern design was brought to our attention in the mid 20th century. This involves a basic base area with many different colorful designs brought into the space. Man made materials and items are an easy way to bring modern life into your design. There aren’t that many tips to follow when it comes to modern design except clean and simple. Is it time for a room in your home to have a face lift?

There is no limit to the colors you can use to achieve a look from the modern movement; however certain colors will fit better than others. Try to use white as your main color. While this may seem a bit dull it fits the clean cut look you are trying to accomplish and will not clash with any of the bright accent colors you will be using. For accent colors think about mixing and matching.

Other muted tones should be used to add a bit of contrast to the white. This looks great on the curtains and furniture alike. So when you are picking such things as, candle holders and picture frames go for these accent colors. Keep all of your decor simple and clean so that it will match your theme. There is no need for a lot a clutter. The idea behind this style of decoration is to give your room a bright and airy feeling. Do not take from it by adding too many knick knacks. While you can have too many knick knacks you can not have too much light.

Lighting is very important in the room as well. Floor to ceiling windows that offer a lot of sunlight are ideal, but if you do not have access to this kind of natural light there are other options. Consider a few very simple lamps or install some hidden track lighting. Both of these will give ample light without detracting from your design. Another great accessory that should be used in this room is an area rug.

Area rugs provide comfort and warmth to your home. Additionally they can help keep your home cleaner. Find an area rug, that does not have a pattern on it or find an area rug that is a solid neutral color. Make sure that the area rug fits well in the room. This means it should compliment your accessories and be the correct size for the space you use it in.

There isn’t much to follow when it comes to designing a modern room in your home. Just make sure things are clean and simple and you are on your way to a fantastic design. Who said reviving your home would be expensive?
